Introduction

Prior to the TheIPCo., the company started its venture in the service industry since 2005, where the team was servicing clientele such as local universities, research company and small-medium industries within Malaysia. Thereafter, in 2016 the company has collaborated with a team of professionals in Intellectual Property (IP) field having the same vision to develop and grow the Intellectual Property (IP) service sector in Malaysia and grow its global IP network by forming new brand, TheIPCo. to grow its global IP network. TheIPCo., team are mostly hailed from top-tier IP firm in Malaysia & Singapore. Despite, TheIPCo. being a boutique IP firm, the team of professionals are made of qualified and highly experienced individuals from a variety of technical backgrounds from a broad spectrum of the law, chemical, physic, sciences and engineering disciplines, having more than ten (10) years of experience in Trademark, Patent, Industrial Design and Copyright prosecution and litigation before patent offices which include the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and European Patent Office (EPO), as well as having experience of working & liaising with top-tier foreign affiliates companies, which produces a team that able to understand the clientele and deliver their expertise in all areas of Intellectual Property (IP) practice.

Who is MyIPO ?

The IP Company (The IP Co.) team of professionals consist of qualified and highly experienced individuals from a variety of technical and legal backgrounds, we work closely with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). Prior to 1983, intellectual property rights (IPR) in Malaysia was administered by Pejabat Cap Dagangan dan Jaminhak. This Office changed its name to Pejabat Cap Dagangan dan Paten in 1983 and was placed under the jurisdiction of the then Ministry of Trade and Industry. On 27 October 1990, the Ministry was restructured and the Office was placed under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs which is now known as Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Coosumerism and changed its name to Intellectual Property Division. The Division was tasked to administer Patents Act 1983, Trade Marks Act 1976, and Copyright Act 1987. The Industrial Designs Act 1996 came into force in 1999, followed by the Layout-Designs of Integrated Circuits Act 2000. In 2001, the Geographical Indications Act 2000 came into force. To respond to the development of intellectual property at domestic and global levels, the Division was corporatized on 3 March 2003 and known as the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (PHIM), with the enforcement of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia Act 2002. The Corporation took an important first step of rebranding when the acronym PHIM became Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 3 March 2005 at the inaugural National Intellectual Property Day.
